They are well worth the money. I've also shared them with others not facing cancer and they have benefitted from the wisdom within them.

Excellent source of information and inspiration By Alice Hardesty These audiobooks are recordings of talks given by respected authors and experts in the fields of complementary healing and integrative medicine. They offer suggestions, practical information, inspiration, and comfort. I laughed, cried a little, and was given renewed hope for everyone with a serious illness who is trying to navigate life's rough waters. As the spouse and care-giver of a husband who received two "terminal" diagnoses but went on to live a healthy and happy life for 20 more years, I wish these CDs had been available in the early 1980s when we certainly could have used them. The audiobooks are in two volumes, recorded at conferences held by a group called Healing Journeys.

The talks are very informative as well as very heartfelt and personal. They are simply amazing to listen to and they are so good that they can be listened to numerous times. They also make an wonderful gift for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. This is volume 1 of a two volume series published by Sounds True; both volumes are great.

19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful and witty By A Customer My high school, which has an amazing theatre program, did this play in my freshman year. The play is fast-paced and hilarious. The story is about an opera house in Cleveland, Ohio, where the world-famous Italian tenor Tito Merelli is expected to come perform. The play opens with Max, a somewhat pathetic man in his thrities, who works at the opera house, and his girlfriend, Maggie. Max wants to marry Maggie, but she, a dreamy girl (and huge fan of Tito Merelli), wants "more experience" before she settles down. Saunders, Maggie's uncle and Max's boss, enters in a panic because the famous tenor is late. Tito finally arrives on the scene with his wife, the busty, proud, sophia loren type (who was not expected),fighting with her as they usually are. Tito is accidentally drugged before his show when he takes too many relaxation pills, and is mistaken for dead. Panicking, Saunders and Max try to think of how to cover up the "death," at least until the morning after the show. Max, an aspiring opera singer with no one who has faith in him, steps in and takes Tito's part of Othello. Meanwhile, Tito wakes up...and, as the saying goes, "Pandemonium ensues." Other characters include Julia, an older woman, dramatic, the chairman of the opera guild; Diana, a sexy soprano; and a bell boy, who has his share of funny lines (all of these people, of course, great fans of Tito Merelli). In the end, everyone finds love and contentment. The play ends with a hilarious 45-second replay of the whole play, where the actors dash around frantically, gesticulating wildly and re-enacting all the scenes. A must-read, but it's really a play that you have to SEE. So if you get a chance, please do.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. An Operatic Comedy By A Customer I read LEND ME A TENOR and soon afterward saw in onstage. Ken Ludwig (who also wrote MOON OVER BUFFALO and the libretto for the hit musical CRAZY FOR YOU) creates a madcap comedy that cleverly incorporates Italian opera into the action. The setting is Cleveland in the 1930's. The city's Grand Opera Company is presenting Giuseppe Verdi's OTELLO, to star world-famous Italian tenor "Tito Merelli." Max, a young novice tenor who works for the company's cantankerous manager, Mr. Saunders, himself dreams of singing the title role. After Tito arrives in Cleveland, he gives Max a singing lesson and the two quickly become friends. But when Tito's wife leaves him suddenly, he becomes distraught and drugged, and it is up to Max to save the performance!While TENOR is a laugh a minute, it is more than a farce. The friendship that quickly develops between Max and Tito is very touching. (For those of you who are wondering, the duet from Verdi's DON CARLO that they sing together in Act I is also known as the "friendship duet.") In addition, Max is a multi-dimensional character: much more than just a "wimp," he WANTS to sing in public, but his nervousness and fear hold him back. What he needs is confidence, and this is what he finally gains. Though TENOR is Max's story, the other characters are just as clearly delineated with funny dialogue and stage business. In my opinion, TENOR ranks with Larry Shue's THE FOREIGNER as one of the finest comedies written during the 1980's.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Mediocre and average. By MAB "Lend me a tenor" is the second play I've read by playwright Ken Ludwig, the first being "Moon Over Buffalo." I've concluded that Ludwig's plays are best performed, rather than just read. He includes much action and physical stage direction that cannot be fully appreciated when being read in bed or while sitting on the sofa. A lot of it is silent acting, with movement and facial expressions. The beginning was very witty and funny (reminding me of Neil Simon), but as the play read on, it became drawn out and overdone. After the mistaken identities and confusion, I expected the ending to be a "big bang," but after the climax, it lost steam. But, maybe when seen on the stage, it is fine. For it's readability factor, I "sorta" recommend.

Fun and light with a few twists and some moments of complete self-indulgence By Gaele I’ve read the prequel to this series, and enjoyed the literary obsession of the heroine, fobbed off by many as just another pretty face. In this story, Elin has everything every girl should want: a wonderful debut season topped with an engagement to a Duke, making her the envy of her friends. Now, her life is in the country as the wedding plans are being made and her fiancé Gavin has decided his brother Ben must give up ‘playing soldier’ and return home to assist him.Dancing the line between convention of the time and appealing to more modern readers, Maxwell dances Elin’s former crush, Ben, stirring up her old feelings for him, despite her anger at being ‘abandoned’. Ben believes Elin is too good for his arrogant brother, and he doesn’t appreciate being made to tuck tail and obey his every whim.A slower pace sets the tone as the history between Elin and Ben is revealed, her father’s plans for her marriage to a peer and the slow redevelopment of their relationship, one that could set the ton on its ear. But, all is not quiet in the country, and whether it is sibling rivalry with Ben and Gavin, a bit of censure of Elin because of her relationship with Ben years ago, or the fact that someone wants Elin dead, the story takes several twists, none of which seem to be noticed by Gavin. Rondeau At the start of Cathy Maxwell's new series – Marrying the Duke  – wedding bells are ringing or would have been if not for the return the duke’s rake of a brother who throws a curve ball into the heart and mind of Miss Elin Morris — the proposed bride. Many years ago, before Benedict Baynton left for military service, Elin had given both her heart and innocence to Ben. How could she possibly marry his brother Gavin Baynton, when she had unresolved feelings for his younger brother.Truly, I was completely immersed in MATCH OF THE CENTURY from the very first chapter. There had never been closure between Elin and Benedict after their brief affair when the very next day after their assignation, when Benedict left without even a note of farewell. Now several years later he was back arriving the very night of Elin and Gavin’s betrothal ball. However, before the announcement could be made tragedy struck, and it would be another year, before Elin would see Benedict again, and not under the most pleasant circumstances. Elin was running for her very life - straight into Ben’s arms.MATCH OF THE CENTURY sped along at an extremely fast pace, and the villain(s) of the piece were revealed in a surprise twist, which had me making other assumptions until just before the big reveal. The love story was quite good and satisfying as I have always come to expect from the pen of Ms. Maxwell.As usual Ms. Maxwell left the doors wide open to entice the reader into salivating over the next book in the series which I will be definitely be looking forward to.Marilyn Rondeau

But sorry to say this book did not appeal to me. Could not get into the story, too slow of a read for me.

I thought I had a handle on it, but this book gave me a rude awakening. I thought I was snarky and I was wrong! Apparently to be a champion snarker you must pick apart people by any flaw they have and be an arrogant, misogynistic twit that has no real understanding of women. I have been doing it wrong the whole time. Now that I have my trusty repertoire of lame jokes, quotes and lists of movies and books that may or may not contain a hint of witticism I am ready to be a true snarkest! THANK YOU SO MUCH LAWRENCE DORFMAN!!!! You changed my life. You have actually inspired me to put together my own book. Now I know that all I need to do so is gather up a few quotes and references and intermittently make dense jokes, I am ready!If you have any concept of what real snark is this book will bore you senseless. You will stop and ask yourself "Does the author know about different types of humor?" I sure don't think he does. He lumps anything that could be considered mean, sarcastic, sexist, etc... into the snark category and often forgets that wit and intelligence play into it. It is hard to be condescending when there is no one below you to look down on(I'm looking at you Dorfman).Another thing, the citations were enough to drive a person crazy. Especially on a Kindle. You know you can do that in text, right? Especially since the book is set up like a kid's activity book. I'm glad I only paid 99 cents. Try harder Dorfman. I haven't given up on you yet.

Both, introduction and preface, seem entertaining and after reading them I was persuaded to buy it. I however regretted shortly after. It turned out to be a collection of comments, remarks and jokes, which are at most, mildly amusing. If you find it on sale go for it, or else you can skip it. I've read a lot of books with a similar idea which are far more better.

The title is wrong in every particular By Ken Kleinman The compiler (or author, if you insist) has attempted to conceal the fact that this is merely a collection of funny quotes through the misleading title and by adding a few introductory paragraphs. But the book is almost entirely quotes. There are also a few jokes of the assorted quality and type that your buddy from college mass e-mails. I enjoy quote quotes, and there are at least 3 or 4 in the book that I don't recall seeing before. But the vast majority of the quotes will be familiar to many readers, the jokes have mostly been around for generations, and the comments from the compiler are unfunny at best. In addition, many of the quotes are misattributed, not attributed at all, or, most oddly, attributed to fictional characters.In short, the book is not really specifically about snark, since it includes humorous quotes and jokes which have nothing snarky about them. It's not a reference in that it is inaccurate or omits information that could have easily been included. It is not a guide in any conceivable sense-- it will teach you nothing about how to be snarky, to be specific. It is not about verbal sparring in that many of the included quotes are wholly self-contained and would make no sense in a verbal confrontation. It's a fine quote book for people who don't read too much.You want some snark in this review? OK: I wish the resale value hadn't been made negative by the author's signature on the title page.

It has given insight and definitely helped with understand a few people I know who exhibit these same types of behaviors. I was never able to exactly pinpoint what was going on with these relationships but that I always left feeling so frustrated, mad, and confused. It nearly drove me insane. But after reading this... OMG! It described their (the people I know) behaviors perfectly. I no longer feel so confused but more relieved knowing I can finally see what the heck is going on. (-this behavior really is the perfect crime without definite evidence. If you say something without proof, it makes you look like the crazy one.) I'm definitely going to try out some of these helpful steps. Being around passive aggressive people can literally make you go madddd...

I thought it would give true pointers and tips for situations like when passive aggressive ppl try to manipulate you with the silent treatment and deny covert things they do but it wasn't in here. I really didn't receive any new knowledge and it seemed as if the writer was off in their basic definition/description of passive aggressive ppl. I do not recommend his book to those that want more than an overview.

An Invaluable way to Build Self-Assurance and Confidence in ones own Thinking By Herbert L Calhoun Edward de Bono single-handedly has introduced to the public the notion that being aware of "how we think," can be an important determinant of "how well we think."This book is "proof of the pudding:" In a series of three carefully gradually 5-Day exercises -- "The Bottles problem:" to improve insight; "The Blocks problem:" To increase Sequential thinking; and "The L-Game:" to improve strategic thinking -- de Bono shows the reader how increasing confidence in how we approach difficult "thinking problems" can improve how well we do at solving them.Each of the problems begins with an already modestly difficult problem and then ascends to a very difficult problem. The "end problem" is one in which, under normal circumstances the reader never would have tried to approach, without de Bono's assistance.As but one example the "The bottles problem" is one in which the reader is required to begin on the first day to balance four knives atop four bottles, then each day he is required to remove one bottle so that by the last day the requirement is to balance the same four knives atop a single bottle.I used this course as a "warm-up" ( and as bonus points on exams) for students from non-scientific areas, entering advanced mathematics for the first time. It proved invaluable in reducing the fear of mathematics.Five stars.

The focus of the book is directed less towards the solving of the problems, than at helping you understand your approach, and through this awareness, improve your thinking abilities.Each course sets a practical hands-on problem, that requires no specialist knowledge or maths. Throughout the five days it builds, what begins as a tricky challenge, into one more difficult than you would have imagined being able to solve. En route De Bono offers insights into the problem solving process and pointers to areas you might explore to illuminate your own thought processes.The three courses look at insight, sequential and strategic thinking. De Bono succeeds in creating an entertaining learning environment. Readers will enjoy the challenges set and will gain valuable insights from their thinking about their thinking.A powerful book to improve what Woody Allen called his `second most favourite organ'.Sample ProblemAs a taster, this is the first puzzle of the book.Place three bottles upright on the floor to form a triangle where the distance between the bases of the bottles is slightly larger than the length of a knife. Use three identical knives to form a platform on top of the bottles to support a full glass of water. No part of any knife may touch the floor.If you like this kind of challenge and can resist turning quickly to the solutions this book will give your the opportunity to explore and learn about your thinking processes.
