He's Come West to Die, But Ends Up Finding Hope- Engaging and Heartwarming Western Historical Romance By Sophia Rose He's only got a few months to live. Logan Holstock realizes what is truly important to him. He heads west to find the brothers he was separated from when their parents died on the Santa Fe Trail and leaves behind a cold-blooded fiancee', a wealthy life of the Chicago elite, and the business he built to success beside his adopted father. Meaningless now. But in searching for his family, he finds so much more and he regrets more than ever the fact that he'll be gone soon.Sybil Spencer has lived with a selfish, greedy man for the last six years and now he wants to send her little girl off to boarding school because he can't stand the sight of her. Sybil has been a dutiful wife and took Norman's arrogant attitude, but she will not let him send Kitty away. She marches down to the bank and confronts Norman only to get into the middle of a robbery. Norman is arrogant and pays for it with his life, but a sickly stranger comes to her rescue. Then he impresses the whole town, but wants to be left alone. Only, Sybil wants very much for Logan to hope and live.Ah yes, the blurb was enough to hook me in. And then I was excited because it was an author I have especially wanted to try since I've been reading more western historical romance lately. This was the third story in the Cactus Creek Cowboys series about the third long lost brother. I didn't realize it was part of a series when it caught my eye. However, I wanted to read it so badly that when I noticed it was part of a series, I said heck with it and grabbed it anyway.I'm so glad I did. I can see where I missed out on some good stories with Colby and Jared's stories and their marriages to two other Spencer cousins, but this story was easily read out of order. I loved that the romance is only part of the story that also includes the story of the small western town of Cactus Creek and part of a large family of Spencer- Holstocks. The children play amusing roles and the other brothers and their families are a strong part. But besides the small town, the family, and the romance, there was a mysterious murder from Sybil's past and the present machinations of Logan's adopted cousin trying to get her paws on his money by any means she can. Most of the book is fairly tame and even dragged a few times before picking up again, but the opening scene and then the big end scenes put the action element in to provide a gritty variety to an otherwise gentle pace. The characters are engaging. I was totally won over by all of them particularly Logan who was dealing with being a good man and doing the right things even though he was dying and Sybil who made some mistakes as a young girl that she had to keep paying for. And then there was darling Kitty, a little girl who had a gentle nature and a heart of gold. Trusty the dog was practically a character too. But all the additional characters populating the scenes were also fabulous. The romance was a slow burn and developed slowly because Logan thinks he has nothing to give since he's so sick and Sybil has made a couple bad decisions about men so is wary of her feelings even if Logan were receptive. They do finally come together and its a sweet loving that felt just right for this story. This pair started out friends and partners to save Sybil's bank and I liked that though the attraction was there, the other came first.I'm not sure if this was the last book in the series since all three brothers are happily matched, but the world of Cactus Creek, Arizona, was a great place to visit. It's a baby western town and the pioneer spirit that brought the people there is alive and well. The western setting stayed pretty much in the background to the human lives and the romance elements, but it was drawn well and balanced nicely with the story. All in all, I had a fantastic time with this tender, heart-warming western romance that I would happily and easily recommend to others who like moderately spicy and moderately gritty action with their historical westerns. My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

It is also the thrilling conclusion to the Cactus Creek Cowboys series.Logan Holstock is a rich Chicago business man who has just received a diagnosis no one wants to hear. Logan, with the little time he has left, is on a journey to find his two brothers. They were separated when their parents died on the Santa Fe Trail. This journey will lead him to Cactus Creek, Arizona. What Logan doesn't expect to find is an alluring widow, Sibyl Spencer, who stirs up feelings that a dying man shouldn't have. Will Logan find his brothers? Is it possible for Logan to have a future with Sibyl?Logan is a man resigned to his fate. It has allowed him to see what and who is really important to him. Nothing like a near death experience to set a person's priorities straight. Sibyl had been trapped in a marriage to a very controlling man until fate took him away. It may not be proper to be happy that someone is dead, but that is exactly how Sibyl feels. She is free at last. What will she do with this newfound freedom? Is it possible for her to finally find love? This story has plenty of action, adventure, sweet romance and characters you will fall in love with. What more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series.

To say I was shocked is an understatement. I say shocked because I actually liked this story. I liked everything about it even the whole 'dying' story line. That part was actually quite legitimate and if you can put yourself in the time and place of these characters, I have a strong feeling that you would too. This is the 3rd story in the Cactus Creek Cowboys series and although I didn't read the first 2 this read as a stand-alone. I didn't feel left out at all. Cactus Creek is a small town that's typical of it's time. There's usually a couple of families who have the majority of the wealth and it's no different here.Logan Holstock remembers his younger brothers. When they were much younger and after the death of both parents the 3 brothers were adopted by different families. Logan ended up in Chicago as the only son of a wealthy hardworking businessman. Raised in the ways of his father, Logan knew nothing but work and doing what his father expected of him. So one of the things that Logan did was agree to marry the daughter of his father's brother. This chick is certifiable and if crazy was a medical term I would gladly stick it on her. After his father's death, something (that might have been the death diagnosis from the best MD in Chicago) strikes Logan's soul and he breaks his engagement and sets off to parts known to see if he can find his two younger brothers. Ending up in Cactus Creek and as sick as he's ever been, Logan does find what he's been searching for but it takes him a while to not only find it but to accept that it's okay to wish for something that he never ever though he deserved much less could get.I read this story in one sitting. One night I couldn't sleep, I picked this up and then couldn't put it down. I mean it was that good. Every time I thought I got to a stopping point I'd read something else and couldn't stop. I have to admit that Sybil Spencer was my favorite character. Looking at her from the outside in, you would think that's she's had such a charmed and perfect life. But once her character started revealing things and little clues were dropped it wasn't long before I really wanted this woman to have some semblance of happiness that wasn't focused through her only child. She's a widow but there's nothing about that union was a good marriage. That dead husband of hers was something else.Between the backstory to Logan's death sentence, Sybil's bank, Sybil's cousins, Logan's brothers and their families, Trusty the dog, and all the colorful characters that make a town interesting, there's a lot but it all made for a wonderful sequence of events that left me quite happy to miss a few hours of sleep.Happy Reading Folks!Rating: B*ARC provided via NetGalley by publisherPosted at www.redhotbooks(dot)com
