About the Author Tara Ison is the author of the novels The List, A Child Out of Alcatraz, a Finalist for The Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and Rockaway, selected as a "2013 Best Books of Summer" by O Magazine. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This is one brave author By Ellen Keefe Love this collection of provocative, stimulating, maddening and often funny stories. Tara Ison always puts her subjects under the microscope (sometimes brutally) and these short stories are no different. Her prose is sharp yet beautiful and she has a way of getting under your skin and into your head. Honestly, she also has the ability to shock ("Ball") and I thought I was un-shockable. What a treat.

The stories in Ball (I love the title By Maxon The stories in Ball (I love the title!) are dark, often hilarious, strange and twisted, and every last one is rendered in gorgeous prose that is a pleasure to read. There is a brilliance behind them all that comes from a writer who looks deeply and fearlessly at some of our scariest preoccupations and desires. I especially love the title story and Multiple Choice—these two are pretty nearly perfect pieces of writing. Every word is in place, every idea and action is fascinating. They are the kind of original and accomplished stories that make you fall in love with literature.

Holy cow. .graphic sex, dark stories, twisted and haunting. Sad , deranged, weird stories. Yet, I could not stop reading and then thinking about them.Wow.
